About President Bazoum

Mohamed Bazoum’s journey to leadership began in classrooms, where he taught philosophy and instilled in his students a sense of critical thought and social responsibility. Driven by a vision for a democratic and prosperous Niger, he rose to become the country’s President in 2021. His presidency marked a turning point—focused on empowering women, reducing corruption, and bringing stability to a region torn by conflict.

Under his leadership, Niger built strong international alliances, drawing support from democratic allies around the world. Bazoum’s government sought to protect Niger from extremist threats while working to create economic opportunities, increase educational access, and uplift communities. His initiatives for women’s education, aimed at reducing early pregnancies and improving futures, resonated deeply in Niger, one of the world’s youngest countries.

Yet, in July 2023, his vision was interrupted. Mohamed Bazoum was removed from office by a military coup, and he has since been held captive under harsh conditions, cut off from his loved ones, his allies, and the outside world. President Bazoum’s detention has become a stark reminder of the region’s challenges to democracy.

Despite the hardship, President Bazoum refuses to resign or relinquish his commitment to Niger. He remains resilient, spending his days reading and hoping his cause will rally supporters across the globe. As international powers shift away, Niger’s military junta has turned towards Russia, Iran, and other autocratic regimes, deepening the urgency to act.

This site is dedicated to ensuring Mohamed Bazoum’s story does not fade. His unjust detention is a call to action—for democracy, justice, and the principles he represents. Together, we stand with President Bazoum and demand his freedom.
